Description
Copal - Purifying Resin From The Andes
In the Andes grows a tree that produces a special resin. Copal - golden when fresh, hardening in the air. When you burn this resin, you smell the mountains, the altitude, the thin air. The scent is resinous and sweet but also herbal, with something that reminds you of pine resin and citrus at once. It's a scent that creates space, that clears the head, that removes old energy.
Sagrada Madre works with local gatherers in Peru who understand how to tap the trees without causing damage. The resin is processed into hand-rolled sticks, with natural charcoal and fruit biomass as base. No chemical additions, only natural materials used with respect for the tree and tradition.
Indigenous peoples in South America have used copal in their ceremonies for centuries. The smoke is seen as a messenger between the world we see and the world we feel but don't see. Copal purifies, opens, creates space. It's used at transitions, new beginnings, moments when energy needs to shift.
What makes this incense special: Authentic copal resin from the Peruvian Andes. Traditionally used for purification and ceremonial purposes. Ideal for new starts, transitions, or when you want to renew energy.
What Does It Smell Like?
✧ Sweet Resin Warmth
Copal has that typical resinous scent but with more sweetness than, for example, olibanum. There's a natural honey-like tone, warm and pleasant. It's not overwhelmingly sweet but definitely has more softness than other resins.
✧ Herbal-Fresh Accents
Through the sweet base come fresher, more herbal-green tones. Something reminiscent of pine resin, with a hint of citrus. This prevents the copal from becoming too heavy and gives it a clarity that fits its purifying nature. The total is a scent that both comforts and refreshes.
How Do You Use This Incense?
Use copal when you want to consciously begin a new phase. At the start of a project, after completing something major, during moves or important life transitions. Or simply when you feel the energy at home needs renewal.
Light the stick and let the flame burn briefly before blowing it out. The smoke rises with that characteristic copal scent and spreads through the space. Each stick burns for about 60 minutes, but indoors 5 to 10 minutes is often sufficient for a clear effect. Extinguish in shell sand when you're done - the sand helps close the ritual consciously. Copal also fits well with yoga, meditation, or moments of reflection.
