Rue Pastilles

Rue grows close to the ground and has pinnate leaves with a grayish-green color. In these pastilles, the dried rue is processed with charcoal, allowing the herb's effects to release directly when burning.

How Do You Use These Pastilles?

Place a pastille in a fireproof bowl - preferably one you use only for cleansing. Light the edge and let the flame die out. The pastille now smolders and releases a steady stream of smoke. Walk through your space with the bowl if you want active cleansing, or let it sit if you want the entire space infused with the scent.

Rue's scent is powerful, so start with short sessions if you're not yet familiar with the herb. Five to ten minutes is often enough for an average room. You can always extinguish the pastille by pressing it into sand or soil and relight it later. Ventilate well after use - not because the smoke is harmful, but because the scent lingers long.

After burning, the charcoal continues to smolder. This is when you can add other protective herbs if desired: think of sage, cedar, or juniper. You can also place small pieces of resin like copal or benzoin on the glowing coals. This builds a layered protection ritual.
